A memorial tribute for the late Mrs Ruby Wells, as written by Club President, Frank Cookson…
It is with sincere regret that I advise the passing of Club stalwart, Ruby Wells.
Ruby began her association with Mascot way back in the early 1970’s and was a member of our then Ladies’ Auxiliary which conducted the Kiosk as well as raffles and other fundraising and social functions.
One of our tireless Kiosk workers over many years, Ruby was much loved and held in high esteem by all who had the pleasure of being associated with her. She gave much and wanted nothing in return.
With the Wells’, our Club has always been a family affair with husband Kevin being a dedicated, hands on official for that many years I can’t total them up and the boys Jimmy and Robert playing for us during their entire football careers. They were followed likewise by grandson Dean McDonald and a great grandson about to commence playing this year.
Of course,Ruby’s daughter Deborah is also part of the family tradition and continues to assist in the Kiosk and do anything else the Club requires of her.
The door to the Wells’ family household has never been closed and anyone and basically everyone has been welcome to the “do drop in” over the years. Ruby welcomed everyone with a “would you like a cup of tea/coffee or a soft drink” “Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?” and of course.there was always a bed for anyone who needed somewhere to stay.
I could go on and on about Ruby but to put it mildly with an old cliche, it’s good to know good people and Ruby was up there with the best.
Rest in peace old friend – You will certainly be missed.
